Kanye West and the Wishing Board

Traditional Media just got way cooler in Chi-town with this interactive display.

Tired of the same old billboards? Well finish your last yawn and feast your eyes on this:

I ain't sayin' she's a gold digger...

This ‘Wishing Board’ is a promotion for Kanye West’s 808s and Heartbreaks album. The technology behind this billboard allows viewers to interact with it using their phone camera or text messaging to receive free ring tones, videos and chances to win CD’s of the album and other surprises.

They are referred to as QR codes in Japan. The difference between what they use overseas for and what you are seeing here is that not only can you scan it, but you can also snap a picture of the code and email it to get the content sent back to you. This allows for better reach within the US market as these scanner applications are few and far between here.

This billboard in particular was produced by ViralMesh, a leader in online and mobile interactive brand experiences using state of the art technology. If you live in Chi-town and want to check this thing out, stroll on down to the corner of Peoria and Randolph. Don’t forget to bring your camera phone!
